Object Description

This is part of a simple shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. The cloth beam held the finished portion of the cloth being woven on the loom. The metal and wooden gears on one end of this cloth beam let the weaver turn the cloth beam to wrap more cloth around it, and to control the tension on the warp as he was weaving.
